2008 news...

Dust off those shoes, dig out the Polly shorts, eat your oaties and listen up…

With mid summer now officially over we head into what I regard as the “real” Cape running season.  There are some stunning races on the radar screen and it’s time to flare those nostrils, knuckle down and show face.  Myself included.

Trail enthusiasts, pay attention:- There is currently a summer trail series kicking off next week.  Organised by Montrail and Cape Storm, the series consists of 5 midweek evening races.  They start at 17h45 at various well known tracks in the TMNP (Table Mountain National Park) and are of modest distance.
Graeme asked the race organiser re: ad hoc participation on a race-by-race basis and this was his reply: “runners can race them one at a time, but because we are limited by the Parks for field numbers, these one off entries need to be completed at least by the day before the race as no entries will be accepted at the start.” – Owen Middleton 084 221 8422.  www.trailseries.co.za

Let’s not get caught napping in 2008 and miss out on those Old Fisherman’s Trail entries, which are as scarce as rocking horse droppings by June. Get to www.sports4u.co.za NOW and register on their mailing list.  Entries open in about May and the race is set for 22 June!

For the fleet of foot and mad as hell brigade there is the Midnight Hell Run looming.  This is staged in the vacuous and desolate De Hel valley near Prince Albert.  80, 50 and 35km trail runs are on offer and there is a mountain bike combo event to take part in too.  Race day is 23 February.  Check it: www.hellrun.co.za
